Zachary’s Law
Safer Roads for Ohio
Mission
In memory of Zachary Wensel
(2004-2025)
Our Mission is to honor Zachary's legacy by advocating for updated roadway safety laws in Ohio that protect everyone— drivers, passengers, and horse-drawn vehicle occupant alike— and to prevent tragedies caused by dangerous, outdated infrastructure.
The Law
A separate lane or shoulder for buggies and slow-moving vehicles on state routes posted 55 mph and higher. Find out about our mission, methods, and the results of our decades of advocacy.
Why Zachary's Law Matters
Prevention: A designated buggy/slow-moving lane keeps faster traffic and separate, reducing the risk of rear-end collisions.
Equal Protection: Just like highways have truck lanes and bike lanes exist in towns, this recognizes that horse-drawn buggies and rural residents deserve safe infrastructure too.
Physics + Fairness: At 55 mph, cars need 300+ feet to stop— buggies only travel 5-10 mph. Without separation, crashes are often unavoidable.
Comprehensive: This lane idea works hand-in-hand with signage, visibility, and speed adjustments— all under the Zachary's Law umbrella.Ready to take the next step? You can become a contributor to our cause, or participate yourself.
